Or at least what's left of it!  Is this going to last for a while or has it had it?

I cannot see the point of putting the splash guard back on.

Whole pipe, what a mess.

It was through in places, just made it worse with the coarse file. wink

You can see how much steel has been turned to rust.

I paid that number in GBPsurprise.  Tend to be around  £150.sad I won't be replacing the cover so that way when I pressure wash the motor the pipe will get a wash too.wink

The cover does protect from stone, give it a couple of coats of galvanised paint....Try amayama.com, they freight worlwide (mostly anyway, I think !) and they are reliable and the price is sometime very ....sweet....

Already ordered from a UK Mitsy and will be here tomorrow; cost me $130.  Is amayama your regular Pinin source of spares?

Another guy who thought that his fuel tank was 80 litre ! 55 inside, 25 outside :)

From memory I have heard of a few going that way, because of its location it should have be made rust proof from factory

What $87 wink

Previous owner said it was very heavy on petrol......................could be 55:25 here too.wink

Shall I grease the stub before putting it into the hose in case it rusts there again and sticks to the rubber?

grease

Maybe not, some grease have negative effect on hoses. Keep in mind that this piping have been in the car for a very long time, we could think that the new one will outlast the car....

I'll be giving the pipe a good coat of Hammerite car body underseal with added Waxoyl.  I find that stuff to be really good on areas exposed to the more harsh conditions.  When I removed the plastic shield the muck and bullets jammed up behind it and also at the top of the pipe by the filler neck was unbelievable.  One of the problems with UK use is folks do not get the muck of winter cleaned off.

The new one is on. Wahay.

I had to shift a lot of rust residue that had become part of the hose(s) by scraping it off.

I used a smear of grease on the pipe stubs. Reinstall time was under an hour.
