Hey guys. I'm guessing this wil be more for the Aussie IO owners. Recently been emailing a local suspension company - Malaga Springs & Suspension (who are highly rated amongst the local car community)

They've said -

We are state distributors for dobinsons suspension products & Bilstein shocks

"We can supply & fit a 35mm lift kit to your Pajero for $ 1250.00 inc gst
This includes
raised rear coil springs / come with a lifetime warranty & we have coils available for different load applications
heavy duty rear long travel shocks 3year warranty
heavy duty front long travel shocks 3 year warranty
adjust front torsion bar height
fitting
wheel alignment

T he price quoted is for a full dobinsons kit including dobinsons shocks front & rear. If I am correct and you have a pre 2000 pajero we can only get 35mm approx out of it as the cv angle becomes too severe

if you have a coil/coil  2000 nm,np,ns,nt model the price will be different  as they have a mcpherson strut set up in the front and the kit will be $1585.00 inc gst , but the upside to this is you will get your 50mm approx lift"

Can i get your opinions on this please? Originally wanting a 50mm lift and have seen others using struts to help with the cv angle. Any advice appreciated.

I'm not Australian, but, Malaga just went down in my esteem

They have no clue what it is they're quoting on.

I may do things differently, but the first thing I'm going to do before quoting a price is establish what vehicle I'm dealing with - and they have not yet realised that they are not dealing with a full sized Pajero - that quote is for a vehicle with torsion bar front suspension, they are also not replacing the torsion bars, but just "tightening" or winding them up - it does work, but it's not the best way - and it is not an option on an iO, which is coil sprung with MacPherson strut front end.

Yeah, tell them its a QA

When dealing with these places it sometimes pays to include the QA bit as many places disregard the pajero 'iO' bit assuming that it's a trim level. Like saying I have a pajero GLS instead of a pajero GLX.
Long travel shocks off the shelf sounded too good to be true!

.

Definitely sounds like they are quoting you on a normal Pajero.  We dont even have a front torsion bar do we?!

Also they go onto mention some other models your car might be, which are all the big Pajeros. I would be giving them a call.

Malaga quote

Further to what has already been said - strut changes don't help address the cv angle issue you will have from a 50mm+ lift. The only solution is to drop the diff (and therefore engine etc) down by installing spacers.

I agree with the other post, I always mention that the io is a smaller version of the Pajero with a "2" litre engine. I have contacted  Bilstein in the past and got told that they don't have anything for the io.

Good luck.

Tofuboi - I live in Perth

Tofuboi - I live in Perth also, I;ve been running that lift kit for some time now but I had to order mine from over east and get it fitted here. Cost me around $1400. Mine is a 99 QA 5 door

Forgive me for asking ...

Which kit are you referring to - because there's NO way THIS one fits a Pajero iO.

Malaga might have a kit that fit's the iO, but this isn't it.

Fordem - Here is the link to

Fordem - Here is the link to the Dobinson / KYB kit I have fitted from Suspension stuff in Queensland, It's been fitted for 2 years now with no probs, I got them fitted by a suspension specialist in Osborne Park if I remember rightly. Both companies were extremeley helpful. Seems like there are a few other options now but at the time it was ABSOLUTELY all I could find, believe me, I searched, well on the internet anyway.  In fact because my tyres are just about wearing out I'm considering what size I can put on seems like 225/75/16 from the posts (The plate has the extra clearance required) but I have a friend with BFG AT 235/70/16's going cheap so I was hoping they might fit, any views on that ? I think we may just have to try them on there.

I could post some pics once I have the tyres done.

Thanks

.

JYCC999, what you have linked is not what the original posted was talking about, he was quoted front Shocks, of which the IO has Struts, and also a torsion bar, of which the IO has none.

You're comparing chalk & cheese - two different "kits" from two different suppliers - I really don't mean to be harsh, but Malaga are confused, and if we pay you any mind, we'd be in trouble.

,.. Kyb make struts, dobinsons make springs, "suspension stuff" franchise sell packages.

Not sure what is confusing about that at all? What am I missing?

Confusion

Malaga quoted on a kit for a full size pajero. Then someone said that kit worked well in their iO. Then there was some confusion and the guy said he got that kit but was actually talking about the suspension stuff kit. This is where the confusion began, and resulted in some insults flying around. Fordem is stating that it could have been confusing and not good if someone went ahead with the Malaga kit which is clearly not for an iO.

I think that's what is going on.

Getting back to something more relevant: if suspension stuff sell 'new' struts with dobinsons springs which we assume are designed for 'old' struts, I wonder how many people have returned them with lack of droop issues..? Or are they just driving with them as is (which I believe is dangerous on rough terrain)?

Size is not important; it's how you use it that matters!
