The intake is not as low as you think

The Vitara & Grand Vitara names have been used on different vehicles in different markets, so that's where the confusion comes in.

The second picture you show is an SQ series which was the first to carry the Grand Vitara name, but was also sold as a Vitara in the US market - this makes it a first gen Grand Vitara, but a second gen Vitara - it's sometimes called the Gen II platform, to get away from the Grand Vitara/Vitara confusion.

I have an SQ420 Grand Vitara, like the one you show but blue & silver, and the air intake is behind the headlight and above that silver plastic flare around the wheel - I just measured it - on a stock GV the air intake is roughly 86cm from the ground, on a stock iO, it's slightly higher - around 91 cm.

Nice,

Fordem....Now I gotta tell my friend and give him the good news (if he still hasn't found out..) He was really worried about the possibility of an engine damage due to water aspiration on a small river crossing...

I came across this today ...

Maybe your friend would like to see this - give him a better idea of where his air intake is...

Not the same..

Very clear picture, indeed

Do you know if there is difference when it has diesel engine?

My friend's GM Tracker (=GV in Brazil) air inlet, seen form inside the engine coffin, seemed much lower than showed in your pic...

There are some differences...

See if you can get your friend's chassis number - there are at least two different diesels used - on the early ones the air intake is at the same height as shown in the picture, but the ducting in the engine bay differs, and if he has the RHZ diesel it does dip quite a bit - but - he does have the option of sealing the trunking with silicone.

Turbo? Yes!

Yes, there is a turbo, all versions prepared in workshops on behalf of the owners, but Mitsubishi one day had the idea of creating a Pajero turbo from the factory. There were 6 original factory units, model 2007/2008, and they are impressive, Mitsubishi got what was missing in the Pajero, but only 6 units, very rare.
