Hello! I have an automatic transmission 1998 Pajero io 1.8L 4G93 GDI (from Japan). I have been dealing with an intermittent issue that causes the engine light to come on and forces the vehicle into limp mode. I have jumped the port and the 2 codes it gives me are 81 and 85 (8 slow flashes followed by 1 fast flash and 5 fast flashes for the other). I’m having a hard time finding out what these codes are for, does anyone know what these codes are?

I can clear the codes by disconnecting the battery, sometimes they come back with the next start but sometimes they don’t come back for weeks. Curious if anyone has run into the same issue and how you dealt with it.

Thank you!
Kirstin

Edit: also getting ABS codes

Edit:

Neutral is also flashing codes 13 and 23. So if anyone knows what any of these are that would be great!

Are you sure about the flashes? that codes are not listed on the manual:

A flashing neutral light

A flashing neutral light would be transmission codes, not ABS - ABS codes flash the ABS light.

13 & 23 on the ABS light would suggest a defective or disconnected right rear wheel sensor.

Sorry you’re right those

Sorry you’re right those weren’t the ABS codes. When I edited that reply I forgot to change the little “title” I was getting ABS codes however I figured them out. I am 100% certain that the engine light is giving me codes 81 and 85 but they seem to be stored codes. Now I am only getting code 95 from the engine light.

Does anyone know what I should be looking at to fix code 95? [Malfunction in the throttle valve control servo motor (1st motor) system]

Download the Manual

Download the manual on the resources section and look at section 13.

Here is the troubleshot procedure for code 95, but you still need to look on the full manual to locate the related connectors.
