1999 Pajero IO 4G18 1.6L Motor - need balancer / crank pulley
Hi to my Lil Paj Siblings!
New member and first time posting so apologies if it’s in the wrong section!
Sorry for the long story but the process might help someone else in this pickle along the way!
I have a June 1999 Pajero IO with a 4G18 1.6L Motor
I snapped the keyway on the crank timing sprocket/gear which sent my balancer free spinning and damaged the balancer in the process, lucky for me the timing stayed in check so no valves went freestyling or playing contact sport.
I could not find a new balancer or crank sprocket/gear with keyway any where.
I went and got a 4G15 crank sprocket/gear with keyway in it and a balancer but the Pajero 4G18 crank snout is smaller along with the diameter of where the balancer sits on the sprocket itself, so I then managed to knock the old snapped and melted keyway out the paj 4g18 sprocket and knocked the keyway out the 4g15 sprocket out and put it in the paj 4G18 crank sprocket/gear (same size keyway and hole for that thankfully) (better than the roll pin and lock tight I was tempted to use ????)but i am now without a 4G18 balancer and i have bolted the lancer 4G15 Balancer on for cranking purposes (with no drive belt on as I don’t want to put strain on this balancer, just have it on there as I’m cranking it doing compression tests etc) but as the 4G18 crank and gear is slightly smaller there is slight play on the gear where the balancer sits and where the bolt goes through balancer to crank (Pajero 4g18 crank bolt is also smaller)
These 4G18 1.6L motors also came out in some Mitsubishi Lancers, Mirages and Proton Wajas plus more
If anyone knows of anyone wrecking any 4G18 motors or knows where I could get a balancer could you please let me know
Or if anyone has come across this issue and did they find a substitute

Hi Yah and welcomeI have
Hi Yah and welcome
I have dived into https://partsouq.com and found the 4G18 engine in the Pajero io H65W section...
It calls out the P/n for the balancer pulley as MD356151 or MDS4G15 or MD331249
For the cam sprocket it calls MD356723
They are all supposed to be interchangeable and also fit other Mitsis (Google Part numbers) www.amayama.com is a good parts site
But the first thing to check is does yours actually have the 1.6 engine fitted..... Has someone fitted the 1.8??
Need to check the engine codes on the block..... not sure where they are....
Also throw up a picture of the original pulley etc etc ... then we can eyeball what you have....
Cheers
