Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forum, and to the Pajero world. I have a 1996 Field Master with the 2.8L diesel engine. Lately its been leaking oil and i've had the front main seal replaced twice. My mechanic states the only way to fix it is to rebuild the lower half of the engine or put in a new engine, as these Mitsubishi engines have a history of the crank shaft liking to walk around? it only leaks when its driving, when I shut it off, it stops. Any advice or tricks to fix would be greatly appreciated, as im not looking forward to an engine rebuild or new engine.

Welcome

Welcome to the forum, I doubt that you'll find much here about your model as this forum is specific to the Pajero iO or Pajero Pinin as it was known in Europe.

My suggestion would be that you find another mechanic and get a second opinion, it seems the one you're using hasn't been able to pinpoint the actual leak or cause of the leak yet.  I have no experience with that engine, but, generally speaking, cranks don't "walk", they are, I'll use the term "retained" in a pre determined position by the bearings.

There are reasons why a front main seal might continue to leak after replacement (and there are fixes for these) and I have personal experience with leaks misdiagnosed as the front main seal, as you can imagine, no amount of front main seal replacement will fix these.
